However, the economic crisis could be coming to an end, and some individuals looking to become travel agents are preparing for their career at online schools. Plunkett Research provides industry sector analysis and on November 2, the company released its report on the major trends that are affecting the tourism industry. Plunkett says the travel business has been slow lately because of the current economic climate in the US, but in its 2008-09 Occupational Outlook Handbook, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) says this could soon change. The BLS says that as spending on vacations rebounds from the recession, the demand for the services provided by travel agents could grow and employment opportunities could be good. Although travelers can now book flights online, some might prefer to work with a travel agent when they need to plan a complete trip because tourism professionals can help with tasks such as completing transactions with different hotels and seeking out the best local excursions. Whether to become a travel agent or another sort of professional, pursuing a degree at an online school during tough economic times can have its advantages. Many out-of-work individuals have chosen to return to school because they believe educating themselves is an effective use of their time.
