This can require the sort of skills one obtains while attending traditional or online schools of film and television production. Sometimes producers are also responsible for choosing scripts and hiring directors and actors. Mark Burnett has been involved in the production of shows such as Survivor, The Apprentice and Shark Tank, according to the Los Angeles Times. He will also be the first reality producer to win the Producer Guild of America's (PGA) Norman Lear Award. "Mark Burnett is an extraordinarily gifted and prolific producer who has truly changed the television landscape with his award-winning reality programming," said Laurence Mark and David Friendly to the news source. Mark and Friendly are co-chairs of the PGA Awards. "Mark has made a tremendous impact on the television industry worldwide, and we look forward to honoring his remarkable achievements." In its 2008-09 Occupational Outlook Handbook, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) says film and TV producers are frequently under pressure because their work is often temporary. But the payoff can be big, and individuals with an education in the field from a traditional or online school likely have a better chance at succeeding. The BLS also says the best way to begin a career in the world of film and TV production is to obtain a bachelor's degree.
