Connect with Teachers in Your Online Degree Program

An online degree program can provide you with valuable resources outside of the class curriculum, as you network with fellow students and benefit from the knowledge and experience of your teachers. But when you aren't regularly meeting with your teacher face-to-face, it can seem a little daunting to try to make that connection.

However, your instructor in your online degree program is there to help you get acquainted with the format of the class, the technical tools used and the best strategies for success in the course. Don't be shy! If your class is hosted on a secure website, be sure to check for announcements, assignments and discussion items posted by the instructor, as well as the instructor's contact information and, if applicable, online office hours. In turn, make sure your instructor knows how to get in touch with you by letting them know your preferred e-mail address, or by setting up your school e-mail account to forward to the correct place.

As a student earning an online degree, it's crucial to be proactive about your learning experience—don't be afraid to initiate conversation with your instructor or ask questions. Whether you're connecting via e-mail, real-time chat, discussion board conversations or the good old-fashioned telephone, good communication is key.
