Associate of Applied Science in Medical Transcription
The medical transcription program is designed to help you develop
the specialized skills and knowledge you need to transcribe
medical dictation with accuracy, clarity, and timeliness, while
applying the principles of professional and ethical conduct.
Study to acquire the grammar, punctuation, and medical
terminology skills necessary to turn doctors' daily dictation
tapes into clear, concise print and electronic documents. In
addition to the online program, students will complete an
externship through a transcription company, physician's office,
clinic or hospital. Graduates meeting the requirements of the
American Association of Medical Transcription (AAMT) may sit for
the Registered Medical Transcriptionist exam (RMT) and graduates
with two years of experience in the industry may sit for the
Certified Medical Transcriptionist exam (CMT).*
*Although certain programs at Kaplan University are designed to
prepare students to take various certification or licensing
exams, the University cannot guarantee the student will pass
those exams. In some cases, field experience and/or background
checks may be necessary to be eligible to take or to successfully
pass the exams.
